Round 8-the final round of the 2009 D1 Grand Prix Series-was held on October 11 at Fuji Speedway, Shizuoka Prefecture. Masato Kawabata of Team TOYO TIRES with GP SPORTS, first winner of the series in Round 7, showed the same winning skill, ending the tansou round with 99.77 points. He pulled ahead in the finals, ending his second day at Fuji with consecutive wins. It also marked the second consecutive day in which he went head-to-head with teammate Atsushi Kuroi. The extremely close, high-angle drifting had the audience cheering with excitement. Both drivers fought through the final into sudden death, where Kuroi's car blew a gear, propelling Kawabata to the victory podium with his second consecutive win.
