スカイラインGT-Rの生産終了以来途絶えていた、DOHCエンジンが8年ぶりに復活、またレース界に復帰を果たしたことでも、6代目スカイライン(R30型系)は注目を集めました。
直列4気筒4バルブDOHC・2000ccのFJ20(E)型エンジン(最高出力150馬力)を搭載したグレードは2000RSと呼ばれました。RSとはレーシングスポーツを意味します。
FJ20エンジンは1983年にターボ仕様のFJ20(ET)型(190馬力)が加わり、1984年にはインタークーラー付き仕様に進化、最高出力を205馬力にまでアップしました。
レースの世界へは、このRSシリーズがもつボディースタイルに、LZ20B型という2000ccターボ付きのレース専用エンジンを搭載し、スーパーシルエットシリーズに参戦。570馬力以上のスーパースペックをスカイライン使いの名手として有名な、長谷見昌弘選手が操り、1982年の同シリーズで2勝、翌年に4勝をマーク。迫力ある走りでスカイラインファンを虜にしました。
記念車は、スカイラインの貴重な歴史を後世に伝えるべく、動態保存されています。

Eight years after the Skyline GT‑R went out of production, the DOHC engine made a comeback. With racing activities resuming, the sixth-generation Skyline (R30) attracted wide attention.
The 2000RS name was given to models powered by the FJ20 engine—a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder DOHC unit with four valves per cylinder, producing 150 PS. “RS” stood for Racing Sports.
In 1983, a turbocharged version of the FJ20 engine was introduced, producing 190 PS. In 1984, it evolved into an intercooled version, increasing output to 205 PS.
Based on the styling of the 2000RS, a race-tuned version of the FJ20 engine was installed, and the car competed in the Super Silhouette Series.
Driven by Masahiro Hasemi, the Skyline—now producing over 570 PS—secured two victories in 1982 and four wins in 1983. Its powerful performance captivated Skyline fans.
