2004(平成16)年、日産のJGTC・GT500マシンとして新たにフェアレディZ(Z33型)が投入されました。
VQエンジンとトランスアクスルなどのメカニズムはスカイラインGT-R譲りで、スタイリングは前後のバンパーが延長された限定販売モデル「Type E」がベースになっており、直線のみならずコーナリング性能も優れたマシンに仕上がっていました。
このクルマは、前年のチャンピオンを表すカーナンバー「1」をつけて2004年シーズンを戦ったザナヴィ ニスモ Zで、本山哲/リチャード・ライアンのコンビがドライブしました。
シーズン前のテストから好調で、デビューレースとなった第1戦TIサーキット英田で優勝したほか、第6戦オートポリスでも優勝し、見事2年連続のチャンピオンに輝きました。

For the 2004 season, the Fairlady Z (Z33) was introduced as Nissan’s new contender in the JGTC GT500 class, marking the start of a new era on the track.
The VQ engine and key mechanical components, including the transaxle layout, were carried over from its predecessor, the Skyline GT-R.
Visually, the car drew its inspiration from the limited-production Type E, a special model distinguished by its extended front and rear bumpers.
The result was a well-rounded machine, combining strong straight-line speed with equally impressive cornering performance.
This particular car is the Xanavi NISMO Z that contested the 2004 season bearing the prestigious No. 1 plate, reserved for the reigning champion, with Satoshi Motoyama and Richard Lyons sharing driving duties.
Its potential was clear from pre-season testing. The car went on to claim victory in its debut race at the opening round at TI Circuit Aida, and later added another win at Round 6 at Autopolis.
The success culminated in a second consecutive championship title.
