Notes on installing NISMO LSD

  1. Be sure to install the correct LSD for your particular vehicle & model.
  2. Check to make sure that the neither the car's engine nor transaxle has been changed before placing your order.
  3. In principle, no special machining or other work is required for installation (NISMO LSDs meet JAF race regulations for cars with a license number or N1 race classification).
  4. Except where noted, please use standard installation, genuine Nissan ring gear bolts and side bearings.
  5. When installing the LSD, it is suggested that the ring gear bolt, side bearing, oil seals and gaskets be replaced with new items. Please use the installation kit that comes with your LSD purchase.
  6. Cornering characteristics will change dramatically after LSD installation; please be aware of this when first driving your vehicle after installation.
  7. After installation, please break in your LSD by driving 500 km to 600 km at a moderate speed in the city or on winding roads (for street legal vehicles) in order to get the parts and plates working together. The differential's oil should be changed immediately after break-in is completed (at least 200 to 300 kilometers).
  8. NISMO LSDs with a high initial torque setting (high lock ratio) will transmit a chattering noise through the drive wheels or differential when cornering on high-friction road surfaces. To help eliminate this noise and to prevent damage to the plates, please use NISMO COMPETITION OIL type 2189E(75W140) (Rear LSD use: part no. KLD75-RS411).
  9. When the plates have worn and the LSD mechanic deteriorates, replace the discs with new units from the overhaul disc kit and adjust your LSD to the standard initial torque. In some cases, wear or damage to the differential case and pressure ring may prevent adjustment to the standard initial torque.
  10. Setting the initial torque well above the standard value can increase the chances of damage to the powertrain and make handling difficult. Standard initial torque settings should be used for any vehicle operating on public roads.
  11. When increasing the initial torque for competitive vehicles, substitute spring discs and plates for the friction discs and plates. When this is done, the total number of plates will not change, but since plate thickness is different, use only one plate for adjustment on each side to set initial torque (clearance) [for more details, please see Repair Parts].
