Sports Clutch Kit

[ Basic model in kit form, containing clutch disk*, reinforced clutch cover, lightweight flywheel, and release bearings. ]

* Select a disc

Kit Contents

  • Sports clutch disc (COPPERMIX , non-asbestos)
  • Sports clutch cover
  • Lightweight flywheel
  • Flywheel Bolt
  • Release bearing (genuine Nissan part)
Product Note
  • Because of the design and manufacturing processes used to create the improved clutch response and increased output provided by the sports clutch disc and lightweight flywheel, it is possible that the transmission or bearings may make a rumbling noise, particularly in comparison to genuine Nissan parts. Transmission or gear noise is most likely to occur at idling or when accelerating or decelerating in the range of approximately 2000rpm; however, this has no effect on quality or performance.
  • Do not use with a Big operating cylinder, which may result in a misshift due to insufficient stroke volume.

Product Note
  • Because of the design and manufacturing processes used to create the improved clutch response and increased output provided by the sports clutch disc and lightweight flywheel, it is possible that the transmission or bearings may make a rumbling noise, particularly in comparison to genuine Nissan parts; however, this has no effect on quality or performance.
  • If not properly combined, the clutch and clutch cover will not provide the intended performance. Be sure to use a NISMO clutch disc and clutch cover as a set.
  • No mechanical processing of flywheel or transmission is required.
  • Please make sure that there is no mechanical processing or alteration of flywheel or transmission needed; the product may not be useable on some previously modified or altered vehicles.
  • Apart from those vehicles previously noted, the bearings and sleeves already in use on the vehicle can be used; however, it is suggested that these be exchanged for new units.
  • When replacing the clutch, make sure that there is no abrasion, wear or weakening of the release fork, release pivot, operating cylinder and pilot bushing. For high-mileage vehicles, it is suggested that these be replaced.
  • When there are scratches, excessive wear or heat deformation of the clutch disc, clutch cover or friction side of the flywheel, these should be replaced.
  • Because the force needed to operate the clutch pedal will be greater in a reinforced clutch than a standard one, practice in clutch-meet is required.
  • Cermet clutch discs may make a metallic, shuddering or howling sound.
  • The use of a reinforced clutch results in higher cover pressure and required clutch pedal force; depending on use the clutch pedal, pedal bracket and release fork may become bent, and the operating cylinder lifespan may be reduced.
  • The use of a reinforced clutch results in higher torque transmission capacity; depending on use the transmission and differential may become damaged or have reduced lifespan.
  • After installation, be sure to adjust the clutch pedal stroke and the sharpness, and relation in accordance with the service instructions.

Lightweight Flywheel

Features

This lightweight flywheel is created specially for use with NISMO single-plate clutches; it is not only light, but provides the ideal weight to ensure eveness in engine rotation at low rpm range. The use of a high-strength, high-quality chrome molybdenum material enabled a weight reduction of 60% to 70% compared to standard flywheels. Used with a NISMO clutch cover and clutch disc, the package provides a total inertia weight reduction of 80% to 85%, reducing torque loss at low speed while improving response at high rpm. When used with a solid metal disc, it provides improved direct feel at clutch-meet than a dual-mass (damper equipped) unit. At the same time, the same ring gear chamfering process as for standard parts has been used to provide smooth starting through improved engagement with the starter motor pinion gear.

Specification

  • NISMO logo mark
  • Made exclusively for use with NISMO single plate discs
  • Manufactured from chrome-molybdenum (SCM440H) (except for March K12 model)
  • Parts included: flywheel bolts, dowel pin (press-in type)
  • One year warranty (only in japan)

Product Note
  • Because the lightweight flywheel has been designed and manufactured to provide improved clutch response and output, it is possible that the transmission or bearings may make a rumbling noise, particularly in comparison to genuine Nissan parts. Transmission or gear noise is most likely to occur at idling or when accelerating or decelerating in the range of approximately 2000rpm; however, this has no effect on quality or performance. For those concerned about vibration and noise, the use of a genuine flywheel is suggested.

Clutch Hose

Features

Compared to the genuine rubber hose, the stainless steel mesh was adopted for a much lower rate of expansion. The Teflon interior of the pipe provides a low pipe frictional coefficient and smooth flow volume characteristics, for more direct clutch operations. In addition, to improve the release of air during clutch maintenance, an adaptor is included in this kit to omit the U pipe (the divergence pipe located between the clutch master cylinder and release cylinder in the S13 and R32 series). This can be attached simply by replacing the standard part.

Reinforced Release Pivot

Features

When a sports clutch cover or multi-plate clutch set are used, the stress on the release fork and the release pivot which acts as a fulcrum are also increased. In competitive driving and other high-load situations there is the danger of the release pivot failing. The Reinforced Release Pivot is manufactured of high-quality chromoly steel, providing a 30% increase in strength compared to the standard carbon steel pivot, reducing the chance of failure due to overload. The use of a flat washer instead of standard spring washer also reduces the chance for the release pivot to become loose and fail due to excessive play.

  • 30537-RS581:M10xP1.5,total length 54mm

Reinforced Clutch Pedal Bracket

Features

With the use of a reinforced clutch cover, the burden on the bracket, which functions as a fulcrum for the clutch pedal, increases, and there is the danger of the bracket bending or the spot welding coming loose during heavy clutch use, such as in competitive driving. The Reinforced Clutch Pedal Bracket adds additional welding to the standard clutch pedal bracket, providing greater strength and preventing the possibility of trouble while also improving pedal feeling, particularly the feeling of rigidity.

Big Operating Cylinder (for metal disc)

Features

To reduce the pedal load when using a sports clutch, improve half-clutch operating characteristics and provide proper clutch connection positioning, the size of the operating cylinder has been increased from 3/4 inch (Data19.05mm) to 13/16 inch (Data20.54mm). This reduces pedal pressure by as much as 14% compared to a standard part.

Product Note
  • Because the cylinder stroke volume is decreased when using the big operating cylinder, adjust the stroke as needed:
1.Before removing the standard operating cylinder, ensure that air does not enter by clamping the hose securely with a hose clamp.
2.Fill the big operating cylinder to be installed with brake fluid, and connect it to the hose after bleeding air from it.
3.Even after carefully completing steps 1 and 2, some air may be present. Air in the hose will change the pedal stroke and clutch feeling. It is difficult to remove air from wide diameter hoes and pipes such as the U pipe, so be sure to eliminate air completely.
4.Vacuum pressure is the easiest way to accomplish step 3 (use the U-pipe eliminator adaptor which comes with the NISMO Clutch Hose).

Special Tools for Clutch Disc Installation

Features

To improve the work involved in positioning the splines of the clutch disc, two special tools which can insert the disc from the rear are available, one for SAE reinforced spline use, and one for genuine splines.

Specification

  • Spline length: 87mm

Product Note
  • When the position of the splines of the clutch disc are not properly aligned, or assembly is made using force, the clutch disc can be deformed, resulting in misshifts or damage to the clutch disc such as unusual or excessive wear.
  • Problems which are the result of errors in installation are not covered by product warranty.
