Clutch Parts Lineup

Sports Clutch Kit

[ Basic model in kit form, contains clutch disk*, reinforced clutch cover, lightweight flywheel, and release bearings. ]

* Select a disc

Kit Contents

  • Sports clutch disc (COPPERMIX , non-asbestos)
  • Sports clutch cover
  • Lightweight flywheel
  • Flywheel Bolt
  • Release bearing (genuine Nissan part)
Product Note
  • The sports clutch discs and light weight flywheels, which are designed and manufactured to increase capacity for higher output and to improve clutch response, may cause the transmission or bearings to make a rumbling noise which is not present when using the original Nissan production parts. Such noise is particularly likely to occur when idling or when accelerating and decelerating at around 2000 rpm. Please be aware that this rumbling is not due to any defect in the parts.
  • Do not use the SUPER COPPERMIX with a Big Operating Cylinder. This can result in blocking proper disengagemnt of the gears because of insufficient stroke volume.

Product Note
  • The sports clutch discs and light weight flywheels, which are designed and manufactured to increase capacity for higher output and to improve clutch response, may cause the transmission or bearings to make a rumbling noise which is not present when using the original Nissan production parts.
  • When not properly put together, the clutch and clutch cover will not perform as intended. Be sure to use a NISMO clutch disc and NISMO clutch cover together as a set.
  • No mechanical intervention is required for the flywheel or transmission.
  • Please make sure that there have been no previous modifications to your flywheel or transmission before ordering & installing. In the case of certain modifications, the clutch can no longer be installed.
  • Except for those models where the owner's manual specifically recommends against it, the bearings and sleeves already in use on the vehicle can be re-used; however, it is suggested that these be exchanged for new units.
  • When replacing the clutch, make sure that there is no abrasion, wear or weakening of the release fork, release pivot, operating cylinder and pilot bushing. For high-mileage vehicles, it is suggested that these parts be replaced.
  • When there are scratches, excessive wear or heat deformation of the clutch disc, clutch cover or friction side of the flywheel, these should be replaced.
  • Because the force needed to operate the clutch pedal will be greater for a reinforced clutch than for a standard one, it will take some getting used to.
  • Cermet clutch discs may make a metallic, shuddering or howling sound.
  • Because there is greater pressure on the cover and because the driver must use more force to action the clutch pedal, the pedal bracket and the release fork may get bent and the operating cylinder's lifespan can be reduced.
  • The use of a reinforced clutch results in higher torque transmission capacity. Depending on actual use, the transmission and differential may become damaged or have a reduced lifespan.
  • After installation, be sure to adjust the clutch pedal as indicated in the service manual.

Lightweight Flywheel

Features

This lightweight flywheel is created especially for use with NISMO single-plate clutches. It is not just light: it provides the ideal weight to guarantee even engine rotation in the low rpm range. The use of high-strength, high-quality chrome molybdenum carbon steel reduces weight by 60% to 70% compared to standard flywheels. Used with a NISMO clutch cover and clutch disc, the package provides a total inertia weight reduction of 80% to 85%, reducing torque loss at low speed while improving response at high rpm. When used with a solid metal disc, it provides a more direct feel than a dual-mass (damper equipped) unit. At the same time, the same ring gear chamfering process as for standard parts has been used to ensure smooth starting through improved engagement with the starter motor pinion gear.

Specification

  • NISMO logo mark
  • Made exclusively for use with NISMO single plate discs
  • Manufactured from chrome-molybdenum (SCM440H) (except for March K12 model)
  • Parts included: flywheel bolts, dowel pin (press-in type)
  • One year warranty (only in Japan)

Product Note
  • Light weight flywheels, which are designed and manufactured to increase capacity for higher output and to improve clutch response, may cause the transmission or bearings to make a rumbling noise which is not present when using the original Nissan production parts. Such noise is particularly likely to occur when idling or when accelerating and decelerating at around 2000 rpm. Please be aware that this rumbling is not due to any defect in the parts. For those concerned about vibration and noise, the use of a standard, Nissan production flywheel is recommended.

Clutch Hose

Features

Compared to the standard rubber hose, stainless steel mesh has a much lower rate of expansion. The Teflon interior of the pipe keeps resistance low and guarantees smooth flow for more direct handling. To facilitate the release of air during clutch maintenance, an adaptor is included in this kit to empty air from the U pipe (the divergence pipe located between the clutch master cylinder and release cylinder in the S13 and R32 series). This can be attached simply by replacing the standard part.

Reinforced Release Pivot

Features

When a sports clutch cover or multi-plate clutch set are used, the stress on the release fork and the release pivot which acts as a fulcrum are also increased. In competitive driving and other high-load situations, there is greater danger that the release pivot might fail. This Reinforced Release Pivot is manufactured of high-quality chrome-molybdenum steel, providing a 30% increase in strength compared to a standard carbon steel pivot, thereby reducing the chance of failure due to overload. The use of a flat washer instead of standard spring washer also reduces the chance of the release pivot's coming loose due to excessive play.

  • 30537-RS581:M10xP1.5,total length 54mm

Reinforced Clutch Pedal Bracket

Features

With the use of a reinforced clutch cover, the burden on the bracket, which functions as a fulcrum for the clutch pedal, increases, and there is some danger of the bracket bending or the spot welding coming loose during heavy clutch use, such as in competitive driving. The Reinforced Clutch Pedal Bracket adds additional welding to the standard clutch pedal bracket. Not only is the bracket reinforced but this gives the pedal a more rigid feel, which most people favor.

Big Operating Cylinder (for metal disc)

Features

To reduce the pedal load when using a sports clutch, improve half-clutch operating characteristics and provide proper clutch connection positioning, the size of the operating cylinder was increased from 3/4 inch (φ19.05mm) to 13/16 inch (φ20.54mm). This reduces pedal pressure by as much as 14% compared to a standard part.

Product Note
  • Because the cylinder stroke volume is decreased when using the big operating cylinder, the stroke should be correctly adjusted:
1.Before removing the standard operating cylinder, be sure that air does not enter by clamping the hose securely with a hose clamp.
2.Fill the big operating cylinder to be installed with brake fluid, and connect it to the hose after emptying all the air from it.
3.Even after carefully completing steps 1 and 2, some air may be remain. Air in the hose will change the pedal stroke and clutch feeling. Since it is difficult to remove air from wide diameter hoses and pipes such as the U pipe, you should double check to be sure that all air is completely evacuated.
4.Vacuum pressure is the easiest way to accomplish step 3 (use the U-pipe eliminator adaptor which comes with the NISMO Clutch Hose).

Special Tools for Clutch Disc Installation

Features

To make positioning the splines of the clutch disc easier, two special tools are available which can insert the disc from the rear: one for SAE reinforced splines & one for standard production splines.

Specification

  • Spline length: 87mm

Product Note
  • When the position of the splines of the clutch disc are not properly aligned or if overdue force is used during assemblage, the clutch disc can be deformed. This can result in unusual or excessive wear, in blocking proper disengagement or in further damage to the clutch disc.
  • Problems which are the result of errors in installation are not covered by the product warranty.
